Training Leaders Through Athletics
"Training Leaders through Athletics is a community-based initiative that combines athletic performance and leadership development through camps and seminars. Athletics is used as a platform to define concepts such as the "ultimate teammate," competition, and success in ways that extend far beyond the athletic field. A comprehensive curriculum links the areas of personal identity, self-image, commitment, and life purpose in a flowchart format where each component builds on the previous toward the overarching concepts of servant leadership and "living a life of greatness." TLA's "Building Strength from the Inside-Out" philosophy serves as the foundation for the camp program by integrating the external strength development through weight training and speed workouts with the internal strength development through the teaching and application of the leadership curriculum. TLA's local partnership with the Institute of Athletic Development offers a long-term follow-up by providing athletes with top-quality personal training services, and workshops on leadership and personal development that are provided throughout the year. The program offers a unique international component with TLA using their leadership curriculum to launch a major youth and economic development movement in El Salvador that is now providing past domestic campers with the opportunity to serve other people in a developing nation. The result is a top-notch program that offers leadership and athletic development training to our local athletes, coaches, and school districts.
